Commercial content vs fiction (personal update/announcement...)

Hey Reader!

I hope you're having a great weekend. It's that time in October when the trees are at their peak autumn beauty, and I am here for it! 🍁🍂

This email is a bit of a departure from the norm. In fact, it will be the only time I email you about this unless you want to hear more about it.

You see, I'm super passionate about blogging, SEO, content creation, and, of course, AI tools. I get giddy every time I discover an awesome new way to use AI in my business, and I could talk about it until the cows come home. 🐮

But I'm also a multi-passionate person (aren't we all?), and one of my lifelong dreams has been to write and publish a novel.

With a milestone birthday coming up next year (please don't ask me which one 🥲), I've decided that I've got to get a move on this - and so I'm going to participate in the NaNoWriMo challenge in November.

If you haven't heard of this before, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, and it's a national challenge that runs every November. The goal is to write 50k words in 30 days. (You can get more details about it on their website here.)

That may sound like a big undertaking, but the truth is I've been planning this novel for a looooong time; I have a detailed outline that I've been chipping away at for months. I'm also no stranger to fiction writing and have published several short stories over the years. So, I feel relatively confident that I can "win" this challenge without making crazy adjustments to my schedule.

To help keep myself accountable, I'm documenting my journey on YouTube. However, novel writing is quite a bit different than blogging/commercial content - especially because I will not be using AI to write my novel.

So, I've decided to keep these two passions separate, and I started a brand new YouTube channel devoted to NaNoWriMo vlogging and fiction.

Your first question might be, "Wait, what? Why are you not using AI to write your novel?" And the answer is (and this is just my opinion) there's a significant difference between blogging and writing fiction. Blogging is commercial content and more about communicating certain ideas, opinions, methods, or experiences. And although that is an art form in and of itself, it's less about the words and more about what is being communicated.

Blogging is business, and the more efficiently I can produce quality content, the faster my business can grow, hence my love of AI tools.

But fiction is different; it's not just about the story but how you tell the story. So, for myself, this is where I draw the line with AI. I'll still use it to help me do research for the book, but every word will be written by me.

A few months ago, when I ran a poll on YouTube to gauge whether people would be interested in following my novel-writing journey, the outcome was very mixed (as I thought it would be.)

And so - since I only want to email you about things you're into - if you have zero interest in this, you can simply disregard this email, and I won't email you about it again.

However, if you are interested in following me on this journey or interested in fiction in general, click on the link below, and you'll be tagged as someone who wants to receive future emails from me about NaNoWriMo and fiction.

Yes, keep me in the loop!

That's it - We'll now return to our regular scheduled program of AI, blogging, and SEO. 😉

Cheers,
Corrie

P.S. I'd love it if you would subscribe to my new YT channel - your support means everything!

P.P.S. Keep an eye out for a new video dropping Monday on my main channel about using the ChatGPT Voice Conversations feature for blogging 😎

Hey Reader, Happy Saturday! There have been a lot of changes to the online landscape in recent months, thanks to Google and its (un)Helpful Content Update. That's why I've always been a big fan of diversifying my online presence - not just to supplement traffic and income but to build a true audience that is outside the influence of third parties. I'm talking about building your own community through an email list and/or membership. One of the best ways to do that in 2024 is through a writing...

Hey Reader, One of the most crucial things you can do as a content creator - whether you're a blogger, YouTuber, TikToker, or Medium Writer - is to grow and nurture an email list. Why? Because your email list is pretty much the only marketing asset you truly own. Google traffic can dry up overnight. Pinterest traffic can drop off a cliff without explanation. Heck, even Medium could decide to shut down its platform or arbitrarily decide to ban Call-to-Actions in their articles. And you...

Hi Reader! It's been a hot minute since I dropped by your inbox. With the arrival of the new year, there have been a lot of unforeseen changes, adventures, challenges, and projects! One such adventure was a recent vacation to the Caribbean (and long overdue - my first time traveling abroad since pre-COVID.) Since my return, I have been hard at work behind the scenes, having recently created a brand new niche blog that I'm very excited about! I noticed that, while I still love ChatGPT for a...
