Last week, I hosted an exclusive interview inside the AEI membership with my friend and former teacher, Sinem Günel. We talked about all things Medium, and I swear, every time I get a chance to chat with Sinem, I learn a new golden nugget of wisdom!

One of the things we talked about at length was how underutilized Medium is by most writers and bloggers. When you ask business experts about all the ways to grow your business - whether that's by creating more brand awareness, extending your reach, selling your services, or growing your email list - Medium is almost never mentioned.

And yet, without it, my business wouldn't be what it is today. And I know the same could be said of hundreds of other businesses, bloggers, freelancers, and content creators who are leveraging the platform effectively.

We also talked about how a lot of people get dazzled by the potential offered by the Medium Partner Program to the point where they don't see Medium's real benefit.

Don't get me wrong: you can earn hundreds or even thousands per month writing on Medium via the partner program, and that extra income ROCKS!

But the real value of Medium for me has been how much it's helped me grow my business outside of the platform and other third-party entities - AKA, my email list.

This is an asset that I own flat-out; no third-party company or algorithm can take it away from me.

Now, Medium certainly isn't the only platform that can help you build a robust email list. But it is one of the easiest and fastest ways - plus, it's the only platform (I know of) that essentially pays you to grow via the Medium Partner Program.

Case in point, within three months of writing on Medium in earnest, I was earning four-figure months while gaining hundreds of new followers a week. In the two years since I've been writing there, my email list has grown exponentially.

However, I have to be honest: I didn't figure it all out on my own. There's way more to Medium than slapping up a random article and waiting for the money and subscribers to pour in.

First, I had to figure out how to play on Medium's playground!
